Meeting Commenced:

1. George called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. A quorum was present.

Business Conducted:

2. Warrant No. 38 for $5,595.08 was presented. George moved to accept; Jack, 2^nd; vote: 2-0

3. Minutes of March 14, 2007 were reviewed. George moved to accept; Jack, 2^nd; vote: 2-0.

4. Citizens Issues:

a. Dennis Dunbar asked about the length of budget committee terms. George shared with him the research he had from MMA that points out that they have to be 1 year terms only, since Westport Island has no charter or Budget Committee Ordinance that specify otherwise. A discussion followed about how an ordinance becomes law. It was recognized that usually a town committee recommends it to the legislative body for a vote at town meeting. One of the tasks the new budget committee might take on could be the drafting of a Budget Committee Ordinance.

b. Bill Cooney of the Town Hall Committee reported that the balcony project is done. He would like to store the 6 old tables somewhere else. He and Jack were given a state report on the town’s polling place accessibility issues that need correcting. He asked if he could hire Dedee Greenleaf to clean-up. George approved and Jack seconded; vote: 2-0.

c. Dennis Dunbar provided updates to the county’s description of Westport Island for inclusion in the county informational brochure and map.

d. Ron Harrison asked if a “Pass at Your Own Risk” sign posted on a town road removes town responsibility. The Selectmen said they did not know. They will look into it.

5. George moved to appoint Mike Cromwell to the Human Resource Committee; Jack, 2^nd;

vote: 2-0.
