Westport Island Shellfish Committee Meeting

Minutes 5 February 07

 

 

Present: Dave Bertran, Clem Sledge, Jerry Bodmer, Donna Curry, Ron Aho, and Forest and Dillon Smith

 

 

Approval of Minutes: Minutes of January meeting were approved.

 

 

Warden’s Report: Neither warden present to report.

 

 

2006 Report: Committee worked on finalizing the state’s 2006 report. The committee reviewed the final draft and added input as needed. There was a question about whether warden data was from both individuals, or from one. Once that issue is resolved, Donna will forward the final report to Dave who will print it out and mail it to Ron.

 

 

Shellfish Ordinance: The modified ordinance which is to read: “No person holding a Commercial State of Maine Shellfish License will be permitted to purchase a Recreational Shellfish License on Westport Island” will be added to the list of other potential ordinance modifications. The issue of how to reinforce such an ordinance was briefly discussed. One suggestion is to request updates of licenses sold for the committee to review each month. Any suspicious names could be highlighted and checked out if the committee felt it was warranted.

 

 

Wardens for 2007:  An application for Certification and Nomination of Shellfish Conservation has been received from Joe Donohue. Dave will wait for Lincoln’s application before submitting both to the proper channels for approval.

 

 

Allocation request for Municipal License:  This is a yearly requirement. Dave will complete the request and give it to Ron at next meeting.

 

 

Next Meeting:  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 6th, starting at 6:00 PM at the town office.

 

Key agenda item for the next meeting – to closely examine our ordinance to suggest any further changes other than those already discussed.
